Puerto Vallarta sits on Mexico's Pacific coast in the state of Jalisco, curving around the Bay of Banderas with the green foothills of the Sierra Madre rising behind it. Canto del Sol Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive is beachfront with sun loungers and umbrellas, and Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel & Mexican Charm has the beach steps away, with a free shuttle. Families have plenty to compare. Crown Paradise Club Puerto Vallarta has three outdoor pools, supervised childcare/activities and a playground. Canto del Sol has a kids' club, a playground and babysitting services. The Westin Resort & Spa, in Marina Vallarta, offers supervised childcare/activities and a playground, and Hilton Vallarta Riviera has a kids' club. Adults traveling without children can look at Hotel Mio Vallarta - Adults Only, a five-star hotel with a rooftop pool and an outdoor pool. Hilton Vallarta Riviera also offers adults-only ocean-view rooms.
If you like a kitchen of your own, Costa Sur has a kitchenette in every room type. Vallarta Shores has suites and apartments that each include a kitchen, and The Paramar Beachfront Boutique Hotel has suites with full kitchens and balconies. For a private pool, look at the two penthouses at The Paramar, the top suites and penthouses at Vallarta Shores, or the Westin suites with private pools, plunge pools or private spa tubs. Active travelers can snorkel, dive, canoe and fish at Costa Sur, play on the eight-court tennis club at Canto del Sol, or try golf, tennis lessons and snorkeling at the Westin. Evenings range from live music and bingo at Costa Sur to the nightclub and five bars/lounges at Crown Paradise and the live music and nightclub/DJ at Hilton Vallarta Riviera.
When to go
Puerto Vallarta has a tropical climate with a warm, drier season and a hotter, wetter one. The drier months run roughly from November to May, with plenty of sunshine and lower humidity, which makes them a popular time for beach and pool days. The rainy season runs roughly from June to October. It brings higher humidity, hotter days and afternoon or evening downpours, and the green hills look their lushest. Late summer and early autumn are the stretch when tropical storms are most likely along Mexico's Pacific coast, so check forecasts and your booking's flexibility before you travel. Sea temperatures stay comfortable for much of the year, so snorkeling and swimming are possible in most seasons. Match your dates to your priorities: pool weather and outdoor activities, or a greener landscape.
