Montego Bay sits on Jamaica's northwest coast and is one of the island's best-known bases for a resort holiday: warm Caribbean water, green hills behind the shore and a pace that encourages you to slow down. Resort stays here tend to centre on the Rose Hall stretch of coast, where all three hotels we sell are based. Days revolve around the sea, the pool and the table, with the wider town an option for an outing rather than a necessity.
The three resorts suit very different trips. Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall - All Inclusive is the full-scale family choice, with eight restaurants and four bars, swim-up rooms, a kids' club and an indoor play area, plus nightly entertainment and live music once the sun goes down. Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall Adults Only - All Inclusive takes the same coastline in a quieter, grown-up direction, with oceanfront suites, swim-up rooms, three restaurants and three bars, a Zen Spa, yoga classes, a fitness center and a tennis court. Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort and Spa, our four-star option, is the one for travelers who want space: suites and villas, many with full kitchens, an outdoor pool with a pool bar and a shallow end, and a kids' club, playground and indoor play area for younger guests.
What the three share is a seaside focus. The two Hyatt resorts are beachfront with a private beach area, Jewel Grande is a beachfront resort, and each has water sports, with windsurfing at Hyatt Zilara and Jewel Grande and snorkelling at Hyatt Ziva and Jewel Grande. Each also has a spa, so a treatment is an easy way to fill a slower afternoon. Choosing comes down to who is travelling and how you like to spend a day, and our agents are available 24/7 to talk it through while you compare live rates.
When to go
Montego Bay has a tropical climate, so the sea stays warm all year. The drier, sunnier months run roughly from mid-December to April, with lower humidity and the most comfortable days for the beach, which also makes them the busiest part of the year. From May the weather turns hotter and more humid, with short tropical showers that often pass quickly. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June to November, with the highest risk generally in late summer and autumn, so it is wise to check forecasts and flexible booking terms when travelling then. Shoulder months can suit travelers who prefer a quieter resort.
Tips for your trip
- Pick your resort by travel style first: Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall for families who want a kids' club and plenty of dining, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall for adults-only time, and Jewel Grande for suite or villa space.
- If you want the pool at your door, look at the swim-up rooms offered at both Hyatt resorts.
- Self-catering flexibility matters on longer stays: many suites and villas at Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort and Spa have full kitchens, and free parking is available there.
- Travelling between June and November? Check the weather outlook before you fly and review the flexibility of your rate.
- Not sure which resort fits? Our booking agents are available 24/7 and can help you compare options.
